BiTS: One more question I'm going to ask you is, where on Earth did you learn to

    sing like that?

BM: Oh, you know, it's weird because I always thought I had a terrible voice when I
was growing up and well, I wanted this thing like Tina Turner. She was my hero and

so I used to sort of try to mimic her back in the day and I kind of guess it just
developed. I used to be a smoker as well and so a bit of a rock and roll chick. Yeah,

so I guess the voice is sort of moulded around my sort of lifestyle over the last 40
Inside the studio. The Weissnborne is on the left.
    years [chuckles].
BiTS: Do you look after your voice; I mean in the sense that you take elixirs and that

    kind of thing?

BM: Not really. It's all about sleep, really. I think if you've got a good night's sleep,
and you're hydrated you're good. I mean, I'm in good voice when I'm hungry as well.

[Laughs] So I’ve got to be hungry, well
rested. If I've got like a bad throat, it's all
    about rest and sleep, really.

BiTS: That's fabulous. Tell me something
now about the Cyprus writing retreat.
That’s been ongoing for some time?

BM: Yeah, we've been doing that for
several years now and it's a really great
week that myself and Jonathon host. We've

got a villa out there in North Cyprus and
it's great because you utilise it and share it
to do this with people. It's right on the

beach, incorporates all the elements and
we have a guest songwriter who comes in
and really sort of focuses on the workshops

and one on ones with people, and they've
had a certain amount of success in their
writing, somebody very special, a writing

performer. We've got a guy called Cliff
    Stevens coming next October who's
actually an Eric Clapton look alike and

sound alike, but he's actually got several
albums to his name as well. He's a really

brilliant artist and gigs eight months a year, he’s from Canada.

BiTS: There must be some fabulous music that comes out of this event.

BM: Yeah, absolutely. And I always try and incorporate the Turkish musicians that
are on the island that are amazing and everybody really. I try and get the whole

community involved and they can come over and sort of come in and watch the back
