else. But at the same time, sometimes you have things where you're like, oh, there's
kind of something there, and it develops very organically, maybe over a few months.
It just depends on which method works.
BiTS: I saw a note that you put when the new album was published saying: ‘at long
last’. Did it seem like a long drag?
ML: Well, kind of, yes and no. I suppose this album would fall into both categories
that I was just talking about there, methods of like how does writing work. But I
would say that some of the songs on this album, so ‘Faith’, for example is around
about three years old and that's something that's kind of worked its way into an
idea. Whereas there's another couple of songs on there that are a little bit older, but
then with this album it kind of just all came together at once as well.
BiTS: But how about the idea of “Faith And Other Bad Habits”, bundling it all together?

what I thought people
expected me to be and

been five years since I last
put out an album, I'm not
interested in just being
anything other than making what's organically me at the time that I made it. The
title really is about having faith in good people, in good things and all the good in
the world, but also, opening your eyes, looking around and seeing that that faith is
quite often shattered [chuckles].
BiTS: Now let's talk about making the record. When you went into the studio, did
you have kind of arrangements in your head, or what? I mean, it sounds to me when
some of these tracks start that you must have had the bass part initially, for example,
in your mind, before you put it down.
ML: Well, I guess so, yes. So sometimes what will happen is, the way we do things,
I might have a demo and then I'll bring it to Matt and Rhian, my bass player and
