ML: Yeah, again, that was an idea that kind of just crept up on me over a number of
months. I kind of had these little sections down and it just took some time to get
them where they wanted to be. They were trying to get themselves in order.
BiTS: Actually, I'll be quite honest with you and tell you that that's one of my
favourite tracks on the album. I think it's absolutely terrific.
ML: Oh, thank you very much, man. Yeah. To me, it's very sort of Japanese pentatonic
influenced music, and it just reminded me of kind of the way it builds, reminded us
of the sunrise. So I thought, let's call it ‘Hinode’.
BiTS: Yeah, yeah, absolutely
wonderful. Terrific stuff. A long
time ago. Sometime ago, not a long
time ago, Walter Trout had some
very nice things to say about you.
How did you come to meet Walter
Trout?
ML: Well, me and Walter go back.
It's funny, as you said that, I was
just looking at a photo of me and
Walter on my shelf there
[chuckles]. So that would be
around 2006, but when I met
Walter, I was 15 years old and my
dad and a few of my family
members, they were big fans of
Walter, and they travelled around
quite a lot to see the band. They
became quite friendly with Walter and the guys in the band at the time, and Walter
and my dad got talking and my dad said that I was progressing quite quickly as a
young player, and Walter said he'd love to hear. So my dad rushed back from this
gig and said you need to get some stuff recorded. Walter wants to hear you play. So
I did. [Laughs]
I put together some very crude recordings and they were sent over to Walter, and
then he called my dad and said he wanted me to come out and play some shows with
the band. So we followed them around quite a bit in the UK and a little bit of Europe
as well. Whilst we were in Europe, we were at the Paradiso in Amsterdam – this
would have been around 2006, 2007 maybe, and that was when I landed the first
record deal with Provogue Records, and that was all through Walter. So I owe the
man a lot of gratitude and he's a great friend, and I love him dearly.
