Chapter 2

What is the Express Entry Pool?

The first step to coming to Canada as a skilled immigrant is submitting you r prof ile to the
           Express Entry pool.

After a profile has been created, applicants receive a score based on a number of factor s,
such as work experience, language skills in English and/or French, an approv ed job of fer,
           approved PNP nomination, etc.

This score is determined by something called the Com prehensive Ranking System (CRS).

                                           What is a CRS score?

The purpose of the CRS is to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool and issue an
Invitation to Apply (ITA) to the highest ranked candidates. The highest ranked
candidates are “fished out” of the Express Entry pool via regular “draws” or “invitation
rounds”, which occur roughly once every ot her week.

Even if you are eligible to enter the Express Entry pool on the basis that you meet
the eligibility criteria of one of the immigration prog rams previou sly mention ed, it is
vital that you achieve a high enough CRS score in or der to be issued an ITA.

Eligible candidates who have submitted an Express Entry prof ile are given a CRS scor e
           out of 1,200.

This score will determine who will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in an Express
           Entry draw.

The CRS is broken down into four section s:

               1. Core / Human Capital Factors: This section includes points for age, level of
education, official languages proficiency, and Canadian wor k experience.
