BEYOND BASICS
My early fighting abilities weren’t anything to write home about,
but I constantly sought ways to improve and these strategies were
the outcome of that search.
Training for the unknown will always
keep you ready to respond
A strategy used by a lot of fighters was to watch potential
opponents to learn their tendencies! They would watch to try and
pick up any "tells" or favorite techniques. I had the exact opposite
strategy! I never scouted an opponent to prepare for a match. My
Natural Reaction
philosophy was to be able to react effectively to the “unknown”
instead of assuming or expecting a behavior.
Training for the unknown will always keep you ready to respond
correctly over the practice of scouting first to know what to expect.
