BEYOND BASICS
1. Wrist “Snap” Rotation
2. Secret Handshake
3. Hip Rotation
4. Expansion & Contraction
“ ”
All hand strikes can be
broken down into this
simple movement. From a
palm-up position, rotate
the hand to a palm down
position and back. This
simple rotation can be
applied to any open or
closed hand strikes or
blocks.
The second part of this
movement is at the start of the rotation.
For example, extend the hand into a straight punch. Then rotate
the hand over to the palm-up position. You'll also notice that the
arm bends slightly. Rotation of the hand into the punch is all that's
needed at this point to complete and "whip" the strike.
The “Secret Handshake” seeks to emulate
that wave-like motion with the arm.
One last point is to remember that the hand immediately relaxes
after striking or blocking.
