BEYOND BASICS
This same modification for the arm is to change the rotation point
of the strike or block to the midpoint of the forearm!
Using a back-fist strike, for example, typically the hand is
chambered with the elbow pointing at the target with the elbow
being its point of rotation. The strike then moves in an arc to the
target.
The common concept is that the hip
rotates around your center.
For the “handshake” method hold the forearm horizontally in front
with the rotation point moved to the midpoint of the forearm
between the elbow and the hand. When chambering, that center
point is your “sight” and it will be directly between you and the
target. To experience the effect, place a finger vertically on that
midpoint and notice that as the hand moves toward the target,
the elbow will rotate inward around the finger. The hand move in
a straight line to the target.
While the hand (tip) moves in a straight line, the arm (thong)
moves in a wave-like fashion.
Use the Wrist Rotation at the end to "snap" the strike.
A smaller arc-like in Bill Wallace's kick will produce a quicker strike.
An added benefit to this method is that it also adds more power
to the strike! The motion will engage more of the arm or leg
muscles naturally for a quicker and more powerful strike!
