BEYOND BASICS
Here are a couple of analogies that will help with understanding
how to do this movement… if you're not too young to know what
the heck I'm talking about!
Avoid telegraphing by not leaning or
moving the supporting side before the lift.
Analogy One comes from playing hacky sack. It’s where the Hacky
Sack is slightly behind you and you kick it with the outside of your
foot! This movement can also be done by kicking your hand.
Notice that the leg is like a Side / Roundhouse Kick Chamber. To
do this, focus on lifting the ankle to this position while twisting the
body without leaning.
Analogy Two is something I call the Lift and Slide that I've seen in
Country Dancing. From a standing position, lift a leg up to the side
and let the support leg slide in the same direction. It's a lift and
slide.
Those two movements make up the Kick Slide. From an On-Guard
position, start with the Hacky Sack movement and as you kick, add
