BEYOND BASICS

                    Power emanate from here and is the central point for
                    stability.

                    Valence 1: Elbow & Knee Distance – Techniques within
                    this distance will include short-range hand techniques
                    such as hooks and uppercuts as well any kick which can
                    be thrown within this range. (ax kicks, etc.)

                    Valence  2:  Arm  Length  Distance  –  Hand  strike

                    techniques  beyond  the  elbows  and  knees  range,
                    including medium-range kicks.

                    Valence 3: Leg Length Distance – All kicking techniques
                    beyond hand strike distance.

                    Valence  4:  Beyond  Leg  Length  Distance  –  Techniques
                    beyond  leg  distance  which  requires  a  stepping  or
                    jumping type movement to strike the target.

           Normally, distance is viewed as how close or far a person is away
           from a target without regard to which weapon is best for that
           distance.  Most  likely  a  player  would  attack  with  their  favorite
           weapon  or  technique  without  really  understanding  the  proper
           distance to be effective. Once understood, Valences will help to
           instinctively know which weapons are applicable for the valence.

           The five valences in conjunction with three weapons are especially
           effective  in  Self  Defense  situations  to  instinctively  apply  the
           appropriate weapons for the Valence or where to position yourself
           to be effective.
