BEYOND BASICS
where Point One is at the start of the arc/kick and Point Five is
after the arc/kick. Each of those points is where a hand technique
can be applied.
Most are aware of and do two or possibly three points in their
kicking actions. One and possibly two techniques before the kick
and one at the end of the kick.
Point 3 is mid-point of the arc or simultaneous with the kick. The
photo below illustrates what a Point 3 technique might look like.
Point Four is the most challenging but once mastered will become
a significant part of your arsenal.
Why? Because Point Four closes the gap between Points Three and
Five. Point Four occurs on the retraction of the kick. Point Four is
a hand technique performed
simultaneously with the kick's
retraction and before the foot
landing at the end of the kick.
Opponents who counter-attack
between Points Three & Five will
discover that that gap is now
closed!
These are suggested hand
techniques with the Five Point Drill
using a typical Rear Leg Front Kick.
From a neutral On-Guard stance,
● Point One: Front Hand Jab as you begin to shift forward at
the start of the kick.
