BEYOND BASICS
● Point Two: Reverse Punch as your weight shifts 100% onto
the front foot.
● Point Three: Reverse Punch simultaneous with the kick.
● Point Four: Jab with the retraction of the kick while still
balanced on one leg.
● Point Five: Reverse Punch when landing forward.
Remember that this is a Basic Drill to teach the Five Points and is
not an actual technique.
The main emphasis is the kicking action and the Five Points are
secondary actions that are applied during the kick.
The longer it took for an opponent to
“see” a technique, the greater the
chance of succeeding.
It should also be noted that at Points Two and Four, weight is 100%
balanced on the non-kicking leg.
The goal is to understand where each of the Five Points occurs
during any kick.
A couple of caveats to consider when applying the Five Points to
other than the Front Kick.
1. Either hand can be used at any of the Five Points.
2. All Five Points may not be applicable for all kicks. In
most cases, there will be less.
Inspiration can happen anytime, so always keep your eyes, ears,
and mind open!
