“We will need to work these. The important thing to understand is that we have so far been
guessing what the other expects. And because our guesses are inaccurate, we have often
disappointed each other. Let us setup a separate session for understanding and aligning our
expectations. I plan to do it with whole Leadership Team. I will also recommend that all of
you do it with each other.”
Tom nodded, “It is a good idea Dan.” He looked quite uncomfortable though. The reason
became apparent to Dan soon.
“I would have let Human Resources inform you, but in the spirit of total transparency that
you expect from me, I think it is appropriate for me to tell you now; Amy Brown has resigned.”
“Isn’t she our best and top-rated Department Manager?” Dan asked.
“Yes Dan.” Tom replied regretfully.
“What Happened? Do we know why she wants to leave? How can we retain her?” Dan
fired several questions.
“I had a long chat with her. I wanted to understand it prior to her exit-interviews with you
and HR.” Tom paused.
