A Tribute to Mrs. Bernice Hall Doe
by Patricia Merritt Whatley
My Classmate, my Friend, My Teacher Assistant, My Tajiri Arts Instructor,
My Counselor, and Spiritual Sister
“I Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey” with Sister Doe,
Affectionately known as “Miss Lovely”
(“How are you today? Just lovely!”)
Our relationship spanned over 50 plus years: from Crooms Academy through Career Choice,
Marriage, Childbearing, and Travel Experiences, to Our Reunion at my return to Sanford –
our Friendship endured.
As I reflect, my love for her has been pure, for I witnessed her Daily Execution of the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) in
whatever she was called to do.
She set a Positive Example for me and for those she encountered
In her Home
In her Church
On her Job
In her Community
