Incident
Starter found burnt
Root Cause
1. Failure of starter of CFL light.
2. Bi-metallic strip inside the starter was shorted and continuos flow of current occured. Starter got heated and
its polymide casing starts smouldering. CFL wiring near starter got burnt.
Recommendations
1. Temperature monitoring of all CFL fixtures to be done on monthly basis. (Record to be maintained by EMD).
2. As a long term measure, the CFL based light fixtures to be replaced with LED based fixtures.
Case 22 Date: 16.09.2020 Time: 02:01 hrs.
Incident
On 16.09.2020 at 02:01 AM, a fire call message was received from Mr. Mukesh (Canteen boy). On receiving the
call, immediately 1st turnout along with the shift officer rushed to the spot. After arriving at the site, found that
smoke was observed in air curtain motor at entrance of the cafeteria hall of PNC Canteen. After that electrical
person came and ensured the power isolation. Fire crew returned to the fire station at 02:37 AM.
