Incident
Emergency call received at Fire C/R from CISF Gate No-1, regarding flashover near Old Canteen Building.
On reaching at site, flashover observed taking place in aboveground electrical LT cable lying in the surface
drain. Later the normalcy was restored after isolation of Power supply from Substation by UCR.
Flashover in Cable near car parking
Root Cause
1. Short circuit leading to flashover due to cable damage.
2. Lying of power cable was not in accordance with standard engineering.
Recommendations
1. Cable laying to be done in accordance to standard practice.
2. Area around DB to be kept clean from dry vegetation and other unwanted materials.
3. Car parking nearby electrical cables to be avoided.
4. Cable conditions and routing in and around car parking shed at old canteen area to be checked
thoroughly to avoid recurrence.
