for general use by any Web Manager. During the migration process it will only be
available to Web Managers following the Zoom session. The product is evolving
and will continue to evolve, particularly in the short-term. The workbook and any
associated material given to Zoom attendees will be the most up-to-date
version at that time and you will be ‘in the system’ to receive updates as they
become available.
You have attended the Zoom introduction and received this workbook from the
team. If you have not yet attended the Zoom Introduction then please be
patient and wait for your own copy when you do attend so that your knowledge
is current at migration time. I doubt you’ll want to complete this workbook twice.
In due course each of you will probably be cascading your knowledge and skills
related to editing pages on your website to members of your own u3a who
maintain their own web pages (authors). This training covers far more than those
people need and they should not be attending training at this stage.
Why You Should Complete this Workbook
This workbook is primarily to support Web Managers as they move their u3a
website from Site Builder to u3a SiteWorks but it can be used by others who will
be using a u3a SiteWorks site.
If you are a migrating Web Manager with no WordPress knowledge at all then that
is not a problem. Follow this workbook step-by-step and complete all of the
self-checks as you go along and you will be able to meet all of the listed
objectives then migrate your site and edit and maintain it in the future. You will
also be able to create some stunning pages in the process.
If you are a migrating Web Manager who does have WordPress experience then
you do have some knowledge advantage as you already know the basics. You
will be familiar with the concept of plugins but not the u3a plugins and what they
do so you will still need to learn this. If you come from a Classic WordPress
background then you won’t be familiar with the Gutenberg blocks and you can
learn about those in this workbook too.
If you are a brand new u3a getting a website for the first time then you have
nothing to migrate and will be getting a Starter Site* which is effectively an
empty shell. Perhaps you have no WordPress knowledge or perhaps you do but
you will fall in one of the above categories. This workbook is appropriate for you
too but you’ll need to ignore the references to Site Builder and migration.
* There are occasions when, for one reason or another, a Starter Site is more
suitable for a migrating Web Manager and the same applies as if you were a new
site.
Regardless of why you are completing this workbook please don’t be put off by
the number of pages as there are very many graphics in the ‘Part 1 Pre-Migration
Learning’ section that take a lot of page space. The Table of Contents is
deliberately detailed to help you to navigate back and forth as required.
