Please note that you will also receive another workbook for website authors. This
will be an author-focused workbook and is for you to use with your group leaders
who wish to edit their own group pages or for anyone else in your u3a who is
involved with editing content. This saves you time and effort as you don’t have
to reinvent the wheel.

Expectations
For you: - we are not attempting to make you a WordPress expert. It takes many
years of use and practice before you could consider a 3 Age new career as a
rd
web designer. Not every item on every menu is covered but you will have more
than enough to edit and maintain your site. This is not a web page design course
either although there will be a few hints and tips occasionally. This workbook is
not telling you what to put on your pages as every u3a is different and has
groups that do different things. You will be exposed to some new ideas
regarding layouts and content that could enhance your website but what you
choose to implement is your decision. What you will learn is the knowledge and
tools you will need to migrate your site successfully and to edit and manage it in
the future.

For us: - Our goal is to give every Web Manager the opportunity to learn the
above skills and knowledge so that every Web Manager arrives at migration with
a minimum level of skills and knowledge so that the Migrator has a common
starting point.
No matter your background or experience please do complete this workbook
and use the self-checks to monitor your own progress so that you are ready for
migration. This will make it so much easier for you and for the Migrator.

The Migrator has a lot of sites to migrate over the next 18 months or so and will
not have the time to spend teaching you the basics. Please help us to help you.

Time Required
There is no set time for this training and migration programme as it depends on
you but also on the speed of flow of websites through the overall process. The
time it takes to go through this pre-migration section will vary according to the
current knowledge and experience of each Web Manager. If you have some
experience of WordPress already then you could read this document and
complete the self-checks using the resources provided in a few hours but if you
are new to WordPress then it could take you a few weeks. Both are fine. There is
no right or wrong length of time so please work at whatever pace you feel
comfortable with. You can repeat self-checks in each section as often as you
wish until you feel confident. You drive the timings in this entire process by
advising the team when you are ready to move on to the next stage.

Life happens and plans change too and we understand that. For our internal
planning processes we have allocated an average of two weeks each for the
three parts but these are flexible. They are likely to be longer than this for
operational reasons, particularly early in the roll-out process as we all continue
