Traditions
By Juan Hidalgo
I spend Christmas Day with my whole family and I watch my little cousins playing. I
smell all the food my mom made like corn, beans, rice, pork, beef, chicken, cheese, and tortillas.
All my aunts wear their bright colored blouses, skirts, and headbands. Before we eat, we pray to
give our thanks to God. All my cousins are either playing games or on their phones.
One Christmas, my cousin and I decided to go out on our bikes around the neighborhood.
We were having a conversation for an hour or so until this big dog started barking. We started
messing with the dog till it began chasing us. We got on our bikes fast and headed for the house,
but the dog kept chasing us till we got into the house. My cousin and I started laughing at the
thought that we were both scared.
Once we got to the house, my little cousins
were still playing and running around. We
spent the rest of the time playing games
together and laughing. Once it was 12, our
parents wanted to open the secret Santa
presents. Every year we do secret Santa as
a family. Before we receive our presents, we
all pray together and celebrate Baby Jesus
being born. Once we all receive our
presents, we open them and spend the rest
of the time together. We end the night with all of us praying and spending time together.
