things for our rooms. From my first birthday, I still have this painting that I got. Me and my

brothers all have the same one. My painting has more green in it. My middle brother has more

blue in his painting, and the oldest has more red.

When I first heard about this Marshallese tradition, I thought of it as a gender reveal and

how that's a bigger thing for my family. On my cousin's gender reveal, I remember their mom’s

side of the family was there and so was his dad’s. It was just like a big party. There was food,

drinks, deserts, and so many different snacks and games.

Although cultures may be different, everyone’s birthdays are still important. Before

researching this tradition, I did not know other cultures celebrated differently. Now that I know

how the Marshallese celebrate; I think it's unique and fun how they do it. I am for sure going to

talk to my parents and try and do something like this in our family.
