104 The Unforgettable Moments in Life

                                       Celebrating Traditions By Kamden Gardner

T is a teenage boy that

is new to Arkansas. He is from

               Hawaii. T just moved to

Lakeside Jr High and was in

               my old English class. One

               tradition he enjoys is

               celebrating someone's first

birthday. It's a tradition to have

               a big celebration where both

the mother's and father’s families come together to celebrate.

nice outside, they will celebrate outside. If it's not the best weather outside, they will celebrate

               inside a building or gym.

is just as important as when they turn any other age until about sixteen or seventeen. At every

birthday we have food, games, music, cake, and presents.

I think it's cool that the Marshallese make shirts with whoever's first birthday it is. In my

family, we celebrate differently than Marshallese on our first birthday. I remember on my sister’s

first birthday, we had over a few people on my stepdad’s side of the family and a few on my

mom’s, we didn't make it a huge deal, but it was still something to remember, My family doesn't

usually plan big parties. We would rather spend more money and time on presents and decorative
