The Time a Drunk Driver Crashed Down the Road By Alejandra B.

One dark blue night when I was ten, my family was

startled awake by a loud banging on the front door. I

stood up in my bed. KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

“Why would someone be knocking on our door so

late at night!!?!?!!” I thought to myself. I scurried out

of bed and peered out the window. A tall,

anxious-looking man was swaying at the door.

THUMP, THUMP, THUMP…my heart was racing in

my chest like a bass drum. The man started looking in the windows, examining every single one.

“This guy is giving me the creeps.” I thought, quickly sliding away from the window.

“Hurry up!” I prayed. I was swaying just as anxiously as the man outside. Finally, my

dad appeared from across the hallway, comfort instantly filled the room. We both squinted at

each other in the dark hallway. My three brothers were sleeping, oblivious to the disturbance

outside. “There’s a man outside, and I think he might be in trouble,” I whispered to my dad. My

dad nodded and gave me a reassuring smile. Dad ventured to our front door, and I sat on the sofa

to eavesdrop. As my dad slowly opened the door, the faint sounds of police sirens interrupted the

quiet environment. A sick feeling crept into my stomach. My dad cleared his throat and began

               questioning the man.

I leaned in to hear the man speaking. “I really need your help,” He replied. “I’ve been

really stupid - drinking. I got my car stuck in the ditch.” My Dad continued to stand at the door,

nodding. I could see he was scared, then the headlights of the police car took in the scene as it

pulled into our drive. I knew then everything would be alright.
