My name is Irazu Martinez and I have fond memories of growing up. I remember my mom

cooking white rice and beans while my dogs barked. My family lived in an older apartment with

stairs and a popcorn ceiling. My family included my mom, my dad, my sister, my brother, my

dog, and my goldfish. There was a second apartment next to mine with carpet and tile under my

feet and another apartment below our apartment. The weather was warm and sunny. I remember

my older cousin would sheep over and we would play video games. I also remember playing

outside with the neighbors in their treehouse and playing inside with my brother.

One Saturday morning my sister Irazu woke up and thought it was a school day, so she got

ready for school. She started rushing around trying to get ready. While she was rushing to brush

her teeth, all the toothpaste spilled onto the floor and counter. She rushed to her bedroom but she

didn’t have time to go into her closet, so she grabbed some dirty clothes and said, “why not”. She

looked at the time and saw that she had 10 mins before the bus arrived, so she made a pb&j

sandwich, wrapping it in a piece of napkin and putting it into a zip bag. She ran to the pantry and

slipped on the floor, but luckily she didn't get hurt. She stood right back up and made a bagel!

She ran outside like a cheetah to catch the bus, but it never arrived. It was Saturday! My

childhood was a series of experiences with my sister and cousins. They were silly and so was I. I

               miss those days.
