160 The Unforgettable Moments in Life

Where I Grew Up

Little Ruth was born in the

Marshall Islands, where she was

raised mainly by her

grandparents. She grew up with

her older brother, and they had

the closest and strongest bond out of everyone in the family. Her parents along with her little

brother had flown to the United States leaving Ruth and her other brother with their

grandparents. She did not have to wait forever before they had enough money to fly Ruth and her

brother over to Arkansas. When the time came, she was filled with excitement and a little

overwhelmed because she couldn’t wait to see her parents finally. But, she was also leaving

behind her best friends, her brother, and her grandparents.

Her uncle flew from the U.S. to board and fly back with Ruth. During the plane ride, he

told her that it was snowing. This would be her first time seeing snow, so she was less

overwhelmed and mostly excited. When she got here, she was first greeted by her mother and

then her father, and then she met her dad's side of the family, who were also living in the same

household as her parents. Not only was there a family, but they had two pet dogs, one named

Spotty and the other Razor. When she stepped into the unfamiliar house, it was then that she

realized that she was actually there. It wasn’t as intriguing as she thought it would be. She started

thinking about the sunny days, swimming whenever she wanted, and the fruits they had that she

could not have over here. She started regretting the move but tried to stay grateful for a chance to

travel to places she had never been to.
