decorations. We decorated the place with t-shirts, lavalava, guams, yards, and theme-related
items. Everything was from the Marshall Islands or Hawaii. From Hawaii, we got Hawaiian
goodies to throw for anyone to catch. From the Marshall Islands, we got fish, coconuts, and other
fresh foods.
The theme was Elmo and all the other characters that are in Elmo because that's what my
niece grew up watching. The girls wore purple yards and the guys wore red yards from the
Marshall Islands. They were very beautiful. We were there by seven o’clock, and it was very
crowded by nine o’clock. My siblings, cousins, and I were having a good time just talking to
each other and enjoying the music band in the background. The older ladies cooked the food and
my sisters and I were the ones serving the guests.
Finally, It was time for my sisters and I to perform. We did a siva dance, the type of
dance that Samoans do. As we finished, everyone clapped and my cousins that came from
Oregon performed two Marshallese dances. Many people from our side of the family that came
from Texas, Hawaii, Oregon, and Enid performed. My favorite part was watching others perform
because it gets all lit, although we start to get hot! It was definitely a night to remember with all
the joy and smiles on everyone's faces. We made it really worth the night. It's a beautiful
moment that will always live rent free in your head.
