                                                                               By Anthelynn Elson

Joselynn’s favorite holiday is Dia De

Los Muertos because once a year, she and

her family celebrate their dead ancestors.

Joselynn was born in Mexico. As a young

girl, she remembers this tradition more

than any other. During Dia De Los

Muertos, the decorations are made out of

flowers, pictures of her loved ones, and candles in front of the pictures. They also have various

foods, mostly bread, and offerings on the table. They even have skeletons that are made out of

paper hanging by their loved ones’ pictures. They either celebrate at their house or by the graves

where their loved ones are buried.

Another reason why Dia De Los Muertos is her favorite holiday is that they have a

tradition to make their dead ancestors’ favorite food and put it on the table next to their picture.

She also loves this tradition because they celebrate it to pay respect for the dead, hoping their

dead ancestors will visit. Another interesting reason why it’s her favorite holiday is that they also

hold parades or parties, sing, dance, and make offerings to their loved ones. Dia De Los Muertos

also involves food, flowers, visits with family members, prayers, and the sharing of stories and

memories of those who have died. She remembers that one time when she was 14, she heard her

deceased grandpa's favorite song. She and her family started tearing up. This is the incredible

power of Dia De Los Muertos, bringing families together with their ancestors.
