Thanksgiving with the Fam
By Brayden Joslin
The family came through the door like sloths, slow
and laidback. The dogs were barking loudly and Mom
and Dad would tell the dogs to shut up. Grandma
always made delicious sweet, banana pudding and
Grandpa would come in with his long black cane and
sit on the couch. Thanksgiving is a day of food and fun
when the hot, juicy, stuffed turkey is cooked in the
roasting pan. The family gathers around, and like always in family gatherings, Grandpa would
bless the food.
After the prayer, some of the adults would make a plate for my little cousins, and my mom
would tell me and my sister to make a plate. There was juicy, mouth-watering green bean
casserole, cranberry sauce, ham, turkey, and my mom’s deviled eggs. As my sister and I are
getting food, Dad and Grandpa are raising their deep voices at the flatscreen tv. When my sister
and I sit down to eat, I am glued to the game. I would get told to eat because I love football too
much. Sometimes there are debates on who we don't like more, the 49ers or Tom Brady.
Finally, the amazing football game is over and we play games or eat the banana pudding that
Grandma made. I usually make some jokes and the family will die laughing. Later, we will go to
our houses and never really spend time together after this lovely holiday, at least not until the
next Thanksgiving. Most of us take family time for granted. Choose every day to spend time
with the ones you hold close and dear.
