Summer Memories

When I was younger, I grew up by the woods at Hickory Creek and Beaver Lake. On

average, the weather during the summer was really nice and warm. I was always able to hear the

sounds of boats passing by in the water and squirrels climbing through the trees. I could hear

kids playing outside having a good time and smell the fresh air, honeysuckle, and the moms

cooking lunch and dinner. My mom always made sure she had breakfast and dinner for us. Her

cooking was my favorite, and I'll never forget the taste of her cooking because it tasted like home

and brought me back to my carefree childhood.

Growing up my parents didn’t always get along. My mom stayed home cooking and

cleaning, and my dad worked so we had money to eat and heat in the house. School, for me, was
