32 The Unforgettable Moments in Life
The Christmas Story
By C. Boris
I was 4 years old when I first remembered having
Christmas at my house. This is the one tradition me and my
whole family celebrate the most. This tradition is better than
all the other traditions because I can see my entire family.
When I was five years old, my cousin was born a few months
before Christmas. We wanted to make this Christmas bigger
than we had ever made it before because this was her first Christmas.
Christmas came and my mom made tamales. It was warm in our house when she made
them. The atmosphere was lit up with joyfulness. After that, my aunts and uncles arrived, and
they brought some homemade chocolate. After a couple of hours, we brought all our gifts out. It
was a lot because my family’s big and with the new baby, everyone wanted to give a gift
because she was the newborn. After everyone brought in their presents, we sat down around the
living room and waited for the clock to hit midnight. As soon as it was 12 o’clock, the present
opening started. We started with one person and then took turns until gift wrap was everywhere.
It was an unforgettable night. My cousin’s excitement and joy infected the entire room
with loud laughter. After that, we stayed up and watched a movie until everyone had left. By the
time the last person left, it was around 2 am. I was still up because of all the toys I received. My
cousin got a bunch of toys too, but she was asleep. She would have to wait until the next
morning to see them. The next morning was Christmas Day. All of my family woke up happy
and the atmosphere was peaceful. I had never felt like that before.
