82 The Unforgettable Moments in Life
Carter's Friendsgiving
By Iyanna Miller
One of my favorite holiday traditions is Friendsgiving. Every Friendsgiving, my friends
and I get together and choose a Saturday around Thanksgiving to have Friendsgiving. We
normally have Friendsgiving at Kayla's house. When we first get there, the living room and
kitchen are decorated with orange LED lights with cute little, orange pumpkins. We have a
potluck-style dinner; everyone brings different dishes. Jim always brings a nice, brown, roasted
turkey. Everyone else brings a side dish like mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rolls, and
dessert.
After we all finished dinner, Brady sets up the fire pit in the backyard with a lawn chair.
While some people are making smores, Evan, Jen, Emily, and I are playing a football game. We
mark the end of both sides of Kayla's backyard with green paint to mark the start and end lines.
Jim and I are on a team and Jen and Emily are on a team. We race to see which team can get to
the finish line first without dropping the football. After the games are over, we all sit by the fire
pit and give each other gifts, sharing what we are thankful for.
Finally, Kayla sets up the living room with snacks like popcorn, candy, chips, and drinks
to watch the game on her huge tv. Everyone yells so loud that you can’t hear the people on the
TV during the game. Everyone makes bets about who's going to win the game. The game turns
into a tie game, so whoever makes the last shot wins. As the Lakers took the ball down the court,
you could feel the intensity in the gym. The Lakers win! It was such an exciting game! After the
game, everyone says their goodbyes till the next Friendsgiving.
