First Day of School

Kiala was heading to school for the very first time. She was about 6 years old. The

weather was cloudy yet humid, and when she went inside the school, the first thing she saw was

the office, which was literally right beside the door. She heard adults and kids all over the school.

The adults were saying “Welcome to Turnbow elementary.”

Her first impression of the whole school was that it was very big and so many parents

were walking with their kids. She noticed a bunch of posters of people and also words that were

saying “hello” in many different languages. She was nervous to meet her teacher and new

people. She was so nervous that she couldn’t let go of her parents' hands. Eventually she went in

and it went well because she met people who really made her feel comfortable. Ever since she

realized that she would have fun, she couldn’t wait to go to school.

Kiala is now 16 years old. She is about 4’ll. Her hair is short and naturally curly, but she

prefers having straight hair. She was born in the Marshall Islands, and she stayed there until she

was 4 years old. She came to Arkansas so she could attend school in America.
