How I Spend My Christmas
By Jackson Watson
One tradition I have is celebrating Christmas on
Christmas Eve with my family. Every Christmas Eve my
family comes over to my house, and we open presents,
eat, and play games.
We start off the night by eating. We all sit at the dining
room table which is a very long brown wood table
surrounded by people of all ages. There is ham, mashed
potatoes, cranberry sauce, and turkey. We have Dr.
Pepper, sweet tea, water, and Kool-Aid. When everyone is done eating dinner then we eat
dessert.
After we eat, we throw our plates away and split into social groups. The kids go to one
room to play board games while the adults stay in the living room and watch tv and play cards.
We usually always play Monopoly because it's the game we have been playing all our lives on
Christmas Eve. The adults usually play poker or a game called Texas Hold’em...
After an hour or two, we split up into two groups. The little kids go into the living room
and the older kids go into a different room. The adults get the kids’ presents from everyone and
pass them out to both groups. You can hear the laughter and joy between the two rooms as the
kids scream and run around, the older kids say thank you to one another and talk, and the adults
call out the names of the presents for the kids. After we all open presents, it's time to say
goodbye. Once they all walk out the door, the chatter fades away. It gets quiet and everyone in
the house goes to sleep to wake up on Christmas morning.
