Version 2014-1
2.0 SCOPE OF WORKS
2.1 Below Ground Drainage
2.1.1 Carry out a CCTV survey of all foul and surface water below ground drainage systems
within the restaurant area including branch connections to the existing drinks towers to
establish if they are suitable for reuse if required. The survey is to extend as far as the
public sewer connections. Ensure that a company to jet the drains is in attendance.
A full report and DVD are to be submitted to the Project Manager at least 4 weeks prior to
the project commencing on site. This is to ensure that if excavations are required to repair
defective drains they can be programmed in.
The date and time of the survey to be agreed with the Store Management in advance and
it can be expected that this will be out of hours probably starting at midnight. The
contractor should be prepared for the fact that lifting manhole covers may damage
surrounding tiles and site operatives must be in attendance to make good and replace
damaged floor tiles. A stock of replacement tiles will be necessary for this purpose.
It is also possible that manhole covers and/or frames may be damaged when the covers
are lifted. The contractor should therefore be prepared to provide sage temporary covers
in time for the store to open the next morning together with ordering new matching
covers for an early delivery and installation which again may be an out of hours operation.
Items that are to be highlighted in the report
If the drainage system is cast iron then discharge from the drinks towers will probably
have caused damage to gullies, pipelines and manholes. Clear DVD footage must be
included showing details of the extent of any such damage, if cast iron inspection
chambers with bolted covers are involved then the bolted covers must be removed and
the internal condition of the chamber closely inspected and recorded on the DVD.
If the cast iron system is damaged then the contractor is to advise on the options available
which may involve excavation and replacement or relining or a combination of both.
Costings for proposed works are to be provided.
The purpose of this exercise is to ensure that the new kitchen is not installed above a
defective drainage system that will require remedial works in the future causing further
disruption to the operation of the store.
2.1.2 Design and install a new drainage installation. Drawings are to be submitted to the Project
Manager no later than 3 weeks prior to works commencing on site.
Drainage gullies with integral traps are to be provided to all drinks machines, ice machines
and blended ice machines or other as indicated on drawings provided by H&K (kitchen
equipment manufacturers). The drains from these gullies are to connect either to existing
manholes or to existing drains that in turn connect to manholes i.e. providing these
existing drains have been proved to be in good condition and suitable for reuse as above.
All new drain runs are to be designed to be fully accessible for drain cleaning in the event
of blockages.
Where relocated toilet areas are at ground floor level then existing drainage is to be
extended to the new locations.
