The learning idea of this course is aimed at assisting students enhance their reading
comprehension and composition skills that the reading and writing process are ways of learning. Students
will learn to read critically both professionally and students generated texts that stimulate their ideas and
present models of effective writing. Students will also write their own essay based on idea they have read
about and discussed. Finally, students will do extensive revision at both sentence and paragraph writing to
produce clear and correct English. This core sentence composition and writing course aims to teach
students to write clearly and effectively, through the steps of brainstorming, peer review, revision and final
editing. Students will learn to articulate, organize and support written position and they will see the
importance of sentence composition and writing skills well. In addition, by collaborating with others as well
as seeing the value of revision and the recursive nature of the writing process, students will be better
prepared for classes across the curriculum. The course will promote grammatical, compositional skills in the
service of effective communication.

The teaching procedures introduced in this course focus on the language learning process through
reading skills, lectures by the teacher, collaborative learning groups; students-led facilitation of topics;
online learning; games; and activities in order to allow students to develop themselves to their highest
potentiality. Throughout the course, students should be able to use English language skills in seeking
knowledge and enjoyment, including ability to use technology, thinking and problem solving to become
st
well-rounded and use these skills in daily life situations and develop their thinking skills towards the 21
century.

The course also enables students to instill the desirable characteristics, including love of nation,
religion and king, honesty and integrity, self-discipline, avidity for learning, observe of principles of
Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in one’s way of life, dedication and commitment to work, cherishing Thai-
ness, public mindedness and be healthy and well-balanced.

2. Demonstrate understanding of written texts, and of the words and phrases within them.
3. Learn about suggestions and process paragraphs.
4. Learn about cause-and-effect and introductory paragraphs.
5. Brainstorm, plan and draft written work at text level.
6. Learn about expository paragraph and topic sentences.
7. Produce accurate vocabulary and correct word forms.
8. Learn about supporting a logical conclusion.
9. Determine the meaning of the words as they used in the text.
10. Write an interesting article based on the various topics.
