Creating and Innovating the Future
In a lot of ways, the products a company
produces are a testament to the company
itself. They encompass the skills and
personality of everyone behind it. For Dan
Van Dusen, Senior Mechanical Engineer at
ASSA ABLOY Electromechanical Solutions,
in Phoenix, AZ, this is true on another level.
In his day-to-day as a mechanical
engineer, Dan is instrumental in designing,
prototyping, testing, and providing support
for ASSA ABLOY’s products. His days are as
dynamic as his products. As he describes
it: “A little bit of design work in front of the
computer, mixed with a little bit of test
and evaluation back in the lab, combined
with a whole lot of running back and forth
in between.”
But while putting the work in to create
solid, efficient products is important, Dan
recognizes that innovation is at the core of
what he does as an engineer. Thankfully, his
company feels the same way, and is always
encouraging him and his team to be the
best creators they can be.
“New product development is the life blood
of our company… I love that ASSA ABLOY
places such an importance on innovation.
The development team is constantly setting
aside time for innovating.”
Dan also recognizes the importance
of engagement for his and his team’s
productivity and contentment. That’s why
he’s been a part of the Employee Activities
Committee for the past four years, coming
up with new, exciting, and fun ways to
promote employee engagement.
In his leisure time, you can find Dan roaming
and hiking throughout his beautiful home
state or Arizona with his wife Renaya, his
two sons Reid and Quinn, and their two-
year-old labradoodle Kahuna, in the garage
working on his ’68 Camaro, or working to
aid homelessness in his community through
a local emergency lodging program.
