The poskim also discuss other details of the obligation of eating bread in the sukkah on the first night, such as the following:
Must the k’zayit of bread required on the first night consist of bread alone, without any other accompanying foods or
spreads, or can the k’zayit include those as well?

        Responsa Yechaveh Daat, 4:37
According to the strict letter of the law, one fulfills one’s obligation of eating a k’zayit of bread on the first night,
even when it is mixed with salad or fish and the like. Nevertheless, one should preferably eat the k’zayit of bread
without any accompanying mixture of foods, but there is no concern whatsoever of dipping it in soup and the
        like.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF ACHILAT ARAI (A SNACK)?

We mentioned earlier that a meal must be consumed in the sukkah, but a snack, known as achilat arai (lit. temporary
consumption), may be consumed outside the sukkah. The Shulchan Aruch codifies the definition of achilat arai that was
alluded to by the Ran in terms of bread, as well as its application to other foods.

        Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 639:2
However, it is permitted to eat a snack outside the sukkah. What is considered a snack? [It is] a k’beitza of bread.
And it is permitted to drink water and wine and eat fruit (Rema: even if one designated it as a meal) outside the
sukkah. But one who is stringent upon himself not to drink even water outside the sukkah should be praised.
[With regard to] a food made from the five grains, if one designated it as a meal, it is considered a set meal and
needs [to be eaten in] a sukkah.
