The Ran brings different understandings of the Rishonim as to the nature of this derivation from and comparison to the
first night of Pesach: Does the comparison extend to the details of the mitzva of matza as well, including the amount that
must be consumed (i.e. k’zayit), or does it only dictate that one must eat bread, but the amount needed is the same as that
which obligates one to sit in the sukkah any other day of Sukkot (i.e. k’beitza)? In addition, how does this halacha relate to
other exemptions of the mitzva of sukkah that we will see later, such as mitztaer (one who is extremely uncomfortable)? Do
the same exemptions apply on the first night as the rest of Sukkot, or does the obligation of the first night as derived from
        matza override them?

Ran on the Rif, Sukkah 12b
Now on the first night of Sukkot we derive that one is obligated to eat a measurement that one is obligated to
eat in the sukkah. As with regard to the [general] obligation of [eating a meal on] Yom Tov, it would suffice to
eat a k’beitza [measurement of an egg], which is considered a snack, outside the sukkah. Yet we derive from the
Festival of Matzot [Pesach] that [beyond the general Yom Tov obligation] one is obligated to eat an amount that
one is obligated to eat in the sukkah, and therefore it seems that he must eat more than a k’beitza.
But others hold that since this obligation is derived from Pesach, we adopt all the derivations completely. Just as
there, [we are obligated to eat] a k’zayit [the measurement of an olive of matza], so too here are we obligated to
[only] eat a k’zayit [in the sukkah]. And even though during the rest of the holiday, eating a k’zayit is considered
a snack, and it would be permitted to eat it outside the sukkah, nevertheless on the first night since the Torah
established an obligation to eat it in the sukkah, it has the status of a fixed meal.

And others hold that the derivation of the first night [of Sukkot] from the first night of Pesach teaches us that
even if it rained, one is obligated to eat in the sukkah even though on the other days one would be exempt.
