Dr. Holtz was the founder and President of Holtz Bio-Engineering in 1981. Holtz
Bio-Engineering was a biotech pioneer in the design of bioreactors and digital
control systems.
Dr. Holtz has held research management positions at Foremost-Mckesson and
was on the faculty of Ohio State University. He received his Ph.D. at Pennsylvania
State University and was an NSF Postdoctoral Biochemist Fellow at Scripps
Institution of Oceanography. Dr. Holtz has been awarded 24 US patents and has
published over 65 scientific papers. Dr. Holtz was awarded the Pennsylvania

2015 – Thelma Newsome
Ms. Newsome was the secretary and a member of the Natchez-
Adams School District Board of Education in Natchez, MS. The
Board is responsible for the governance, organizational and
financial oversight of Natchez and Adams County Public
Schools. It establishes policies, standards, goals, and initiatives
to ensure accountability and provide high quality, world-class
education for students for success in college, work and life.
2014 – Dr. Samuel L. White
He is amiable, affable and approachable. An articulate
speaker, superb organizer and outstanding team player, the
winsome Dr. Samuel White, Sr. earned promotion with the
th
arrival of Alcorn’s 18 President, Dr. Brown II. Alcorn’s new
chief executive, appointed Dr. White the Vice President for
Academic Affairs. Since February 1, 2011, Dr. White serves
in the capacity as chief academic officer, where he manages academic programs
and faculty.
Additionally, he assists with curriculum development, institutional research and
assessment as well as sponsored programs including Title III. His duties span the
academic landscape at the university. He leads a diverse and dynamic faculty in
the effort to achieve the teaching, research and outreach mission of the university.
“Experienced Administrator” prior to his appointment, Dr. White served as the
Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, where he introduced a monthly faculty-
wide symposium, which is rated as a phenomenal success.
Dr. White has taught and conducted research as an instructor and assistant
professor in the Social Sciences department. During his illustrious career, he also
directed the University’s Honor Program. Earlier on, he served as Director of a
