Lilly Endowment funded curriculum support and development project that
established the Social Sciences Learning Resource Center in Bowles Hall.
Dr. White is a seasoned educator with a national and international outlook, he has
served as national president of (HBCUs) National Sponsored Programs
Administrators Alliance. He also gained international experience over the years,
when he travelled to several African countries and helped develop instructional
materials for schools in Zambia. He also made a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina
in 2006.
Dr. White is an active member and leader in religious, community and civic
groups, he is the Chair of the Deacon’s Board at his church. He also contributes
as an organizer and member in several cultural organizations locally and
nationally. He is the son of Roosevelt and Mattie White and the grandson of
Sanford and Virginia White. Dr. White. He grew up in Church Hill, MS, is married
to Levater Hayes, and is the father of three children.
Dr. White earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from
Jackson State University, a Master’s in Political Science from Ohio State
University, a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Alcorn State
University, and a doctorate degree in Political Science from Howard University,
Washington D.C.
Dr. White advises students to, “study hard, apply themselves and take advantage

2013 – Dr. Darryl Grennell
Darryl Vanrich Grennell is an eighth-generation Natchez native.
After finishing Holy Family Catholic School, S.V. Thompson, and
North Natchez High School, he graduated in 1988 from Tougaloo
College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In 1990, he was
awarded a master’s in science and Education Endorsement in
Biology from Alcorn State University. He then returned to
Natchez for a 27-year teaching career at Alcorn, while continuing to further his
graduate studies at University of Southern Mississippi (Hattiesburg).
Early in life, Mayor Grennell embraced his family’s tradition of community service
and leadership. In 1998, he was elected to the County Board of Supervisors,
where he served 18 years with 13 years as President. He retired from both Adams
County and Alcorn in 2015.
