                                                 Types of wind turbines

There are basically two types of wind turbines, that is, horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT) and
               vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT).

               Horizontal Axis

These turbines are the most common and normally

have three blades that are connected to the shaft.

These turbines also work well in open areas. The HAWT

are generally more efficient than the VAWT at high

                                                       speeds.

               Vertical Axis

There are two types of vertical axis wind turbines, namely, the Savonius and the Darrieus.

❖ Savonius wind turbines are one of the simplest wind turbines that consists of two or three

“scoop”. These turbines are less efficient than the HAWT.
❖ There are two basic types of Darrieus wind turbines, that is, the “eggbeater” type and

                       the H-rotor type.
