prossing it,
A 'curious foaturo of tho affair Y/as that by way of prelude
a gang: who havo not boon identified had for soverol nights lain
up outside lianamoh and firod heavily on the Police Posts on
the outskirts of tho Town; as no attompt was mado to conrnit
robborios or other crimos this was evidently done .to frighten the
tho Polico and inhabitants. Qioikh Salman askod tho Political
Agent's advice and the; lattor told him it was evidently a put up
thing and advised him to toll Sheikh Isa that the Politico} Agent
thought it was an intriguo on tho part of someone who should know
bottor which would dofabtless bo discovered when tho Police
caught one of the offenders. That night tho inhabitants of lianameh
who had guns lent them to the Polico and hundreds of volunteers
turned out to assist. The attackers no doubt got wind of this
and forthwith ceased their activities. They were not many in
number, as fa* as can bo ascertained, but got rid of a great deal
of ammunition. They wore seen to have come over at dusk by boat
from Moharraq, and the Political Agent was informed that one of
Sheikh Abdulla's fidawis (armod retainers)* was reoognized among
them. As Sheikh Abdulla is tho only person who could have any
possible object in such a disturbance, tho Political Agnafe thinks
this points to his complicity.
In any case those two affairs show how vory bad tho Sheikhas
Government of Bahrain is, and point to the necessity of taking
some steps to improvo tho situation.
