The Hon'ble the Political Besident,
Bushi re.
I bog: to forward herewith for your information a petition
which was sent to :no to-day. As I was not in a position to give
them a reply, I stated that I would forward it to you. I deemed
it bettor that it should not bo translated in iny offico for foar
of possible persecution of tho signatories should their names bo
disclosed, I have made a translation which I attach.
Since the submission of my Mos. 12-C and 13-C, the Sheikhs
have ceased persecuting Ilaji Ali, but last night there was an attack
ioy four armed men on a policeman just behind the Agency between here
and tho American Mission. Tho Policeman was shot through the chest,
but was taken to the mission Hospital aid the wound has not proved
fatal. .This morning' a Bahraini from tho village of Jidhafs reported
that ho had seen four armed men in Jidhafs just after dark, They
had hidden their faces with their 'Chafiehs1 and could not be
recognised and when he spoke to them tlioy told him to mind his own
business. It is probable tha£"they were the men concerned in the
affair which took place a few hours latter. It is significant that
Jidhafs is undor tho uir3ct rulo of ohoikh Abdulla. l!ho Jolicoraan
says he fired three rounds and one of his assailants foil but rose
again and then; all van away, ahoikh Sol man discussed the matter
to-day in tho municipal council and e:cpresseu tho opinion that it
was a deliberately 'put up' affair. Tho mooting agroed, and it was
obvious from remarks made that everyone was of opinion that
Abdulla is the cause of Tne mischief. Means of preventing recur
rences were discussed, but no definite dicioion come to, as it is
evident that how over much tho police force bo increased, it will
-» •
always bo possible for such premeditated attacks to be made on dark
nights.
It would seem that Sheikh ubdulla has chosen to follow in the
>U; footsteps
