Sir,
I have the honour to enclose a copy of a letter No.C/180
dated the 28th April 1936 from the Adviser to the Bahrain
Government regarding the claim of Bahrain to the island of
Hawar.
2. I have never landed at Hawar Island, but I have flown
over it. It is a low, desolate looking place near to the
mainland of Qatar, but it is possible tliat it may have
considerable value now that oil has been found in Bahrain
and is hoped for in Qatar.
3. At the interview mentioned in the second paragraph of
the Adviser's letter, I contented myself with saying that
I knew thot there hod been correspondence about Zubarah and
would look up whether Hawar Island v/as mentioned, I have
not as yet been able to trace certain records, of which I am
aware, about Zubarah and Zaknuniyah Island, but my
recollection is that the lote Shaikh Sir 'Isa bin 'Ali A1
Khalifah was informed that the Bahrain claim to these pluces
could not be recognised and that a similar reply was given
to a representation by Shaikh Sir 'Isa's 6on, Shaikh
'Abdullah, y/hich he made personally in Delhi and possibly
London.
4. I do not recollect that Hawar Island was mentioned in
the course of those proceedingo, probably not as I do not
think/
