What Messrs. Pracis Times ask for is an ordinary letter of recommenda
tion to the Chiof for his good ollicos, such as has boon ordinarily given to other
British merchants boforo.
Tboy do not say anything about guns, so wo shall not bo justified in refus
ing their application; besides it is tho Chief’s own look out to prevont tho
importation of arms into his territory if ho wishes to prohibit tho trado. Draft
letter put up for approval.

there is no doubt that knowing this, by giving them the letter thoy ask for, wo
should bo directly encouraging the trade in thorn. Messrs. Pracis Times & Co.
may bo told that I will givo thorn a lettor if they assure me that thoy do not
proposo to import or doal in arms in Bahrein.

I know that the Residency Agent, AghnMobamed Rahim, was Fracis
Times Agent at Bahrein, but I oaunot rocolleot if I know before 1896 if ho
was assisting thorn iu tho arms traflio. In 1896 I was asked by Mr. Ducat it
