Nutritional recommendations for the prevention of diabetes
have included modest weight loss, increased fiber intake, the
incorporation of functional foods in the diet, such as green tea
catechins, pycnogenols, legumes, fruits, vegetables, spices,
condiments that impact insulin action. In addition,
supplementation with Fermented Papaya has been suggested.
Indeed, research have shown that that oral supplementation
of Bio Rex Papaya may cause a significant decrease in plasma
sugar levels in both healthy subjects and type-2 diabetic
patients (Danese et al., 2006). In a study conducted in 2
diabetic patients (Danese et al., 2006). In a study conducted in
the laboratory of Professor Sen and reported in Collard and
Roy (2010), it was sought to establish if there is improved
function of diabetic wound-site macrophages and
accelerated wound closure in response to oral
supplementation of fermented papaya to diabetic mice. It was
found that fermented papaya attenuated the gain in blood
glucose (confirming the results of Danese et al., 2006) and
improved the lipid profile after 8 weeks of oral
supplementation but there was no influential weight gain
during the supplementation period.
