Dear Sir or Madam:
I am very interested in the position of Assistant Director of Finance and would like to submit my
application for this position. Here are some highlights of my qualifications:
ü A bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA with a concentration in finance;
ü An active participant of the CFA Institute and a CFA charter holder since 2006;
ü More than 17 years of experience of financial management for public institutions;
ü Strong leadership and management skills with a keen sense for priorities and efficiency.
Currently, I work for the City of San Jose as the Principal Investment Officer, leading the
investment team managing a portfolio of almost $2 billion. During the last few years, I expanded
the broker/dealer coverage, modified investment policies and procedures, developed credit
analysis programs, further diversified the portfolio and improved the portfolio’s liquidity profile.
In 2018, I led the City’s effort and successfully implemented a new investment management
system.
Prior to joining in the City of San Jose, I worked for three organizations (private and public)
located in Maryland and Alaska for more than 15 years. My career evolved over the time and I
have accumulated broad financial experience in auditing, financial reporting, budgeting, cash
management, debt administration, banking relationship management and investment
management. The past five years with the City of San Jose allowed me a great opportunity to
realize my professional vision as an investment manager. I sincerely hope to expand my
contribution to the City and become more involved in the City’s long-term growth plan.
Please find detailed descriptions of my qualifications and background in my resume. If you
would like to set up an appointment, I can be reached at 907-350-8577. Thank you for your
consideration!
Sincerely,
Qianyu Sun
