Dear Hiring Manager,
Please accept my application for the position of Assistant Finance Director with the City of San Jose,
California. I started my career in governmental finance back in 2009 and have over 10 years of direct
experience working for various cities across Texas. I have served in various roles including budget
manager and fiscal administrator.
As budget manager, I have led the process in preparing the City of Kerrville, TXs operating and capital
budget thru:
1. Providing directions to all city departments thru official memo’s accompanied with forms,
timelines, and scheduled meeting dates.
2. Leading budget workshops with city council to get their direction and budget priorities.
3. Working with City Management to get their directions, budget priorities, and submitting a
complete budget product to the City Manager to propose his budget to City Council for
adoption.
As fiscal administrator, I have led a team of 14 staff to manage fiscal operations across various City of
San Antonio, TX departments to include:
1. Revenue Collection
a. Parking, Lease, Economic Development Loans
2. Grant Management
a. EPA Grant
3. Departmental Expenses
a. Operating Expenses
b. Economic Development Agreements
c. Lease Agreements
d. Capital Project Expenses
4. Financial Reporting
a. Monthly and Annual financial reporting
b. Aging review and write-offs
c. Efficiency recommendations – staffing model for 311 service for temp staff.
5. Budget preparation, monitoring, and adjustments.
Given the above experiences, my MBA in finance and my CGFO certification, I believe I am a good
candidate for this opportunity.
