The survival of the world depends on the safety
of the environment. However, due to certain
human activities taking place today,
environmental resources are being damaged
and nature is being polluted. It is a great threat
to the future of mankind. Therefore, all human
beings living in this world have a responsibility
to protect the environment.
“Parisara mithuro” is a project organized by
Rotaractors to provide a long-term solution to
this global catastrophe. The ultimate aim of this
project was to develop the attitude of young
children to ensure the safety of nature and to
give them a proper education of environmental
pollution and its consequences. The main target audience of this project was
young children because they are the future
guardians of the society. They must be people
who love the environment and recognize the
value of the environment. For this series of
sessions, students of Reggie Ranatunga Science
College, Minuwangoda participated and it was a
well-planned, enthusiastic, brainstorming
program.
The engagement and enthusiasm shown by the
students at all stages of the project was
incredible, proving that the project was
successful in influencing the children's’ attitudes
towards sustainability, conservation and
reduction of plastic pollution.
The Rotaract Club of GITAM, India also collaborated with the organizing committee in order to deliver
the same outcomes in India, thus converting the project into an International Service initiative as
well. The entire organizing committees too were influenced by the project and strive to adjust their
lifestyles as mentioned and also to continue similar activities in the future.
This project successfully motivated the children to keep their surroundings clean and manage waste
properly and also made the children aware of their responsibility to reduce pollution and increase
environmental safety.
