RISE TO RAISE

The project Rise to Raise was a community service project
which was executed in two episodes. As the first episode, a
Beach Cleanup event was conducted in collaboration with
the Centre for Beach CleanUps. The Rotaract Clubs of
University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, Colombo Uptown and
Colombo East also joined in to create a formidable force of
100 volunteers. This event gained a lot of public attention
through mass media such as television and newspapers,
allowing the Centre for Beach CleanUps to continue the
good work in several locations around the island.
As the second episode of the project, an online webinar
was organized to enhance the knowledge of the community
regarding the UN SDG Goal No.14 - ‘Life below water’, in
collaboration with the G17 University Ambassadors’
Consortium. Ms. Irushini Wedage from Parley for the
Oceans captured the attention of the audience to
demonstrate the destruction that was being done to our
oceans and how we could do out bit to conserve this
important ecosystem.
Simultaneously, a competition series was conducted among the undergraduates with the categories of
Sinhala essays, English essays, Photography and Speeches. The Rotaract Club of University of
Peradeniya partnered up with Achievers Business School to award scholarships to the winners. Through
the entire course of the project, the public was made aware on the dire necessity to influence lifestyles to
conserve nature, placing more emphasis on the conservation of Life Below Water.
