THE SCIENCE OF SOCIETY

The Social Science Department at MJKPS rethinks ways to widen the outlook of students in order to craft a more
sustainable future for all. By incorporating technology into teaching, the faculty has actively engaged the students
and made the teaching-learning process joyful. In keeping with the tenets of NEP 2020 in “ providing universal
access to quality education which is a must for India’s leadership in the global stage” the Social Science
Department mobilizes students and addresses global problems through celebration of days of national and

international importance like World Heritage Day, Global Hand washing Day, UN Day and the like in special
    assemblies.

Restructuring online classrooms as mock Parliament, asking students to frame new laws and pass them, running
the branches of the government are some of the activities that involve Experiential Learning. Participation in
online MUN sessions acquaint students with polity and governance. Online ‘Mock Elections’ have had been
conducted for Grade 9. The historical concept of Blue Rebellion has been taught with the help of “TIE and
DYE” activity. Students of Grade 8 have greatly enjoyed colouring their white mask into various colours to add a
sense of happiness during the pandemic. Conducting online Poster-Making competition among students on
topics such as ‘Imagine Life Without Toilets’ and articulating views on the same aims at bringing about a
qualitative change in the lives of marginalized Indians thereby compelling students to think as to how to bring
about a change in society. Grade 6 students have undertaken a project on Numismatics .Grade 7 students have done
    a study on Indo-Islamic architecture.
Conducting collaborative and interdisciplinary online Subject Enrichment Activities like Consumer Awareness
and campaigns like “Jago Grahak Jago” have enabled Grade 10 students to become well-informed consumers.
An awareness about natural disasters and preparedness in real-life situations and mitigation measures has been
created among Grade 9 students by way of Subject Enrichment Activities. A similar unique learning
experience has been offered to Grade 11 Political Science students allowing them to participate in online
discussions on contemporary political practices and issues like Federalism and Citizenship. History students of
Grade 11 have used mind maps to trace the history of ruling dynasties in their online classes. “Waste Not, Want
Not Campaign” has sensitized students about conserving our valuable resources. Videos on conservation of water
resources have inspired students to use water judiciously.

The faculty members have enthused a spirit of learning in the students by promoting Art-based Learning activities
mandated by the CBSE. As a part of Subject Enrichment Activity for Social Science, under “Ek
Bharat,Shreshtha Bharat” programme , students have explored various aspects of our paired state, Sikkim.
Grade 6 students have made beautiful cave paintings. Our endeavour is to create a deep insight into the cultural
nuances and social panorama of Indian and world history in our students and encourage them to live
    harmoniously.
