"Stop it!" screamed Mirabel, pulling the doll away
roughly.
"That's not fair. You are not sharing!" yelled Twinkle.
Both girls were red in the face. Twinkle threw herself
on the rug and pounded the floor. Mirabel locked herself
and her doll in the bathroom, climbed into the dry
bathtub and stamped her feet, crying angry tears. Then
she remembered to breathe in and out, counting to
twenty. Needed another twenty. Then she peeked out at
Twinkle, and saw that her friend was crying too. They
calmed down as Twinkle explained that children of
Andalap were encouraged to take everything apart. Very
firmly Mirabel let Twinkle understand that she prized her
beautiful doll, and that taking it apart would ruin it.
"This is where we hug and forgive, right?" asked
Twinkle.
Mirabel was not quite ready, but she was graceful
about it and soon things were back to normal. Twinkle
was learning about her own and others' feelings.
